me: What should i post for music monday?
jer: I like that Kate Nash song...It's funny whenever british people sing about bottoms
me: yeah. like queen singing fat bottom girl?
jer: what? what's fat bottom girl?
me: (singing loudly) "fat bottom girl you make the rockin' world go round"
jer: hmm, i've never heard that,
me: I'll put it on right now!
so, as we drove to our easter party we listened to Queen, Fat Bottomed Girls
it wasn't very spiritual, but umm, we did listen to lots of hymns earlier in the day
so i guess we're even.
anyway, here's the Kate Nash song Merry Happy
the lyrics are pretty genius, and I DO love her!
Jeremy was right, british people singing about bums is hilarious
and of course i couldn't leave out the
fat bottomed girls
Happy Music Monday, if you have a music post, go ahead and link up :)

we're having a slow start over here.
i mean, it is Monday, ya know?
and my kids are on spring break now.
yay.
or not.
we'll see.
i was on my way to the gym when a bruno mars song came on the radio..
ya know, the one..."if you ever leave me, baby...
leave the morphine at the door."
i was surprised & caught a bit off guard when our local
("family friendly")
radio station edited out the word "morphine"
yes, don't want to give anybody the idea of using morphine to control the pain of heart break.
weird
censorship.
anyway, i've been kinda obsessed by this song lately
somebody that i used to know by gotye
& I'm sorta really obsessed with walk off the earth's version, too.
I love them,
they're kinda like a bunch of hipsters that got together
then decided they wanted a little David Grohl-esque mixed in.
and i LOVE her hair in this vid.
i want that hair.
i saw a comment about this song that basically summed up what's so nice about it...
I love when songs mean more than just "getting drunk at the club" or "finding some bitch to come back her a** up". Songs like this that tell stories are the reason people started singing in the first place. Let's bring this art form back please.
yes, please.
do you have a song you want to share?
something that shows the artistic side of music,
or moves you?
Link up :)
happy monday
So, did ya see Hunger Games yet?? It rocked my socks!
I give the book an A+
and the movie a solid A (which even after a bajillion glute exercises I can't seem to achieve, haha)
There were a few parts that seemed a bit rushed but, hey, we can't have a 4.5 hr. movie right??
anyway, how about that Caesar Flickerman??
haha, loved every scene with him...he was perfect in that role, and epitomized what I imagined for the Capitol people.
I absolutely loved the parts of the movie where you get to see the gamemakers at work.
It was totally awesome to see the behind-the-scenes of how they make the games work, I thought. Can't wait for Catching Fire! (Nov. 2013, btw)
Now, enjoy a few songs from the Hunger Games soundtrack...
and daydream about Finnick, hehe
I love and appreciate all of your link-ups and I personally check each of them out! :)
I'm finally caught up on this season's The Voice
and I'm loving Lindsey Pavao
I'm loving her unique voice
and her unique style
i wish i could sing like her
and here's a vid i found of Lindsey Pavao
singing Flagpole Sitta
love it :)
also, here's a song that Lindsey wrote called The Archer and The Arrow
I love this song
is sounds like it would fit right in on a Hunger Games soundtrack, don'tcha think?
so dark and moody
feel free to link up your Music Monday post!
I'd love to hear what you're listening to :)
Are you listening to The Voice this season?
who's your fav. contestant this season??
I've loved Dia Frampton ever since I saw her for the first time on last season's The Voice
& I was super thrilled when i figured out she's from Utah, (way to represent, girl!!)
not only is her voice beautiful, so is she:
she has a sorta thrift-store shopper vibe that I dig.
speaking of thrift store shopping, I went the other day
and I bought a cool shirt that kinda looks like the top of this dress
and, yeah, it was $3
I love this song!
also, you can read a really cool interview about Dia HERE
and you can buy her album Red on amazon for $5 HERE
$5, yall, that's crazy!
Hope your monday is great!
if you have a song or band you'd like to share,

OH! don't forget to enter this giveaway for $40 worth of free stuff from The Little Illustrator, so fun!
well, March is going to be an exciting month.
we're spending a few days in Salt Lake City next week for an art show.
so, that means a lot of shopping, trips to the zoo & aquarium
Then, on St. Patrick's Day, it's my birthday.
I'm still officially in my twenties for one more year.
it's weird
time goes by so fast
March is also the anniversary of my shop opening.
2 years ago I opened Sugar Blossom Boutique,
I think that's we should celebrate a bit.
So, from now, until my birthday (March 17th) I will be giving a free ruffle flower headband with every $20 purchase
March 17th is also Billy Corgan's birthday i've may have had a crush on Billy since I was 12 years old Jeremy may or may not tease me for having a crush on a guy with such peculiar looks and an odd shaped head...but whatevs
I love the new series Billy has put on youtube. He plays songs from Smashing Pumpkins hayday acoustically and adds a little behind-the-scenes info. very cool.
It's like a personal acoustic session with just you & Billy Corgan...I mean, what kind of young woman hasn't dreamed all her life of this moment...right?!
There are a couple more vids like that on youtube so, if you liked that one be sure to check out the rest
Will you join me for Music Monday?
You can add a link to your favorite music using the linky tool below.
Happy Monday, everyone :)
& don't forget to snatch up your free headband with $20 purchase before the 17th!
right after new years, we had a speaker in church talking about new years resolutions.
of course i dont remember all of it, but one thing that stuck out to me was
if you feel like you are better than or worse than another person
that should raise a red flag
and we should re-evaluate our lives
because we are ALL sons and daughters of god
& life shouldn't be spent comparing ourselves to others
i thought about that a lot
still do, in fact.
because i try not to, but i always compare myself to others.
and i'm almost always judging myself as not as good
never good enough
i'm not as slim as her
i'm don't have as followers on my blog as her
her hair is so much prettier than mine
my house is a mess
she's a better mother than i am the list goes on & on
so the words to On the Radio by Regina Spektor really spoke to me
so, my goal is to try take be more accepting of myself.
to try to be the best person that i can be. to love myself.
so that i can help my children grow up loving themselves.
I thought, in honor of President's Day, I might feature a song from The Presidents of the United States of America (remember them??) but, i'm 100% sure no one wants any songs about millions of peaches stuck in their head...instead, i'll share the 2 songs that really have been stuck in my head all week.
I've been kinda obsessed with these two songs this week. These ladies have such beautiful voices. I love both of these songs partly because of the range of voice the singers have to have in order to sing them. They both go real high, and quite low.
First off, it's Taylor Swift's new song, with The Civil Wars. I love that it's not too country, because I'm not a huge country fan. This song is eerily beautiful, and so is the video.
Next, Jenny Lewis' beautiful voice. She was the lead sing of Rilo Kiley. She is so talented! It's so pretty, I don't think I could ever hit the high notes at the end of this song. I've tried, in the shower.
Each Monday I'd like to share with you a song/songs that I enjoy.

First of all, denim vest, really? yuck.
Second of all, why did he have to sing so pretty and falsetto...'cause i really hate the lyrics.
I mean, really...who wants to hear words like
"you're a pretty little flower but I'm a busy little bee...."
& "monogamy is not a part of me"
Personally, I think monogamy is hot.
Nothing is better than knowing that someone loves you, and your children, with all their heart.
That that person will always be there for you.
To hold you, wrap their arms around you.
Someone to joke with, grow old with.
It's really, truly amazing when you find it.
There's nothing hotter than a husband who is a good father to your children.
Nothing hotter than a husband who comes home after a long day & spends time with the family.
There's nothing hotter than a husband who teaches your kids how to ride their bikes.
There's nothing hotter than a husband who puts his wifey on a pedestal and treats his girl like she's the apple of his eye.
I am so blessed to have a husband so committed and loving.
So, contrast the lyrics of that new All-American Rejects song (beekeeper's daughter)
to the lyrics of Brandon Flowers song "Hard Enough"
it's a sweet song he wrote about his wife and how hard it is on them when he has to go on tour.
how grateful he is that he has her.
that his life is complete only with her in his arms.
that he is sorry for the mistakes he made that caused her pain.
Now, these, my friends, are good lyrics
Reminds me of my husband, if he were poetic, I'm sure these are the thoughts he'd express to me :) listen to it, it's beautiful!!
You let me into your life on a whim
and there was magic and fire in the night
In loving I was just a little boy
I made mistakes that caused you so much pain
All I know is that I'm older now
Some people think that it's best to refrain
From the conventions of old fashioned love
Their hearts are filled with holes and emptiness
They tell themselves that they're too young to settle down
Girl, I promise you, I'm older now
Can't stand the thought of another
Talking to you sweet, my dear
Where would I be tonight
If you hadn't held me here, in your arms?
That concludes my essay on why monogamy is hot.
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Also, you can link up your favorite song below.
Happy Music Monday :)
The song This is Your Life by The Killers is about a stripper named Candy.
This song is about hope. If you have been dealt a terrible lot in life, you don't have to resign yourself to that. There's always hope for something better. This is a beautiful song, have a listen.
For Valentine's Day Jeremy gave me The Killers Live From Royal Albert Hall cd and dvd. it's amazing! Yes, he gave me my v-day present the first week in January because he couldn't wait...
Here is This is Your Life LIVE!
Candy talks to strangers
Thinks her life's in danger
No one gives a damn about her hair
It's lonely down on track street
She used to go by Jackie
The cops, they'll steal your dreams and they'll kill your prayers
Take a number where the blood just barely dried
Wait for something better
No one behind you
Watching your shadows
This feeling won't go
Crooked wheels keep tuning
Children, are you learning
Climatize but don't you lose the plot
A history of blisters
Your brothers and your sisters
Somewhere in the pages we forgot
Take a number Jackie
Where the blood just barely dried
You know I'm on your side
Wait for something better
No one behind you
Watching your shadows
You gotta be stronger than the story
Don't let it blind you
Rivers of shadow
This feeling wont go
And the sky is full of dreams
But you don't know how to fly
I don't have a simple answer
But I know that I could answer
Something better
This feeling won't go
Wait for it

My kids love to sing. Perform? not so much.
I had to be pretty sneaky to get this video.
But, when I heard my 3 year old belting out Tonight Tonight by Hot Chelle Rae, I just had to grab my phone and take this video. She must have had this song stuck in her head, on a loop, check it out:
and here's the original version:
which one do you like better? ;)

The Killers covered this song by Dire Straights called Romeo and Juliet. The story of Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy but the song Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy in a different way. Imagine, Romeo completely head over heels in love with Juliet, promised to love her forever and she forgets him, moves on...
First, I have The Killers version. I think it's really great and I'm grateful that they covered it, or else I never would have heard the original version.
The intro for the Dire Straits version is 2 minutes and 30 seconds then, you can compare the two. I love both versions of this song but, Mark Knopfler definitely has the more emotional performance. Be sure to watch at the 5:40 mark, it seriously made me tear up when I saw it the first time. I think because The Killers version is a lot faster Brandon Flowers didn't have much time to show emotion in his performance. And, maybe the fact that he's happily married it's harder to sing a song about unrequited love? But, like I said, I love both versions! Also, my husband thought that Mark Knopfler looked drunk during his performance so, maybe he's just a sad drunk? Either way, The Killers version is by far better to look at, hehe ;)

These are some of the songs I've been listening to this week that make me wanna turn up the radio and belt out the lyrics as loud as I can. My husband can vouch for that, as we spent over 14 hours in the car together this weekend! It was a feel good, sing loud type of weekend :)
Flo Rida Good Feeling
Feel Good Inc by Gorillaz (videos a bit creeepy, but I like this song)
Florence + The Machine Shake it Out (she rocks, nuff said)
and to round it out, a little Colbie Callait Brighter Than the Sun

I've had this stuck in my head all week...which is funny because this clip is 10 minutes long and says the same phrase over and over...which is exactly how it has played out in my head this whole week, haha!
yeah, that song is played a lot at the place where I workout and yeah, it's hard not to get it stuck in my head! okay, now I need your help! I'm getting a playlist together for my (possible) trip to Hawaii and this is what i've got so far: 1. Weezer- Island in the Sun 2. Jimmy Buffet- various songs such as Volcano and Cheeseburgers in Paradise (cause ya know I'm getting as many cheeseburgers as possible in HI...the diet goes out the window as soon as the vacay begins!) 3. Colbie Callait- Brighter Than the Sun ok....so, you can see i need your help! I'd like atleast an hour's worth of songs and right now i have about 10 mins! so, i'm looking for songs that are -tolerable for adults and children (I'll probably add Hakuna Matata for my Lion King loving daughters but that's about all the disney classics I can handle) -fun to sing along with -possibly by someone cool?? ;) -doesn't necessarily need to be island/sunshine related, mostly I'd like it to be FUN!

Jeremy and I listened to this song over and over again on our honey moon. It automatically brings us back to driving around in our Volvo station wagon, snowflakes pounding our windshield, winter 2001. Good times!
We really like the song, it's sort of "our song" and with us celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year, I thought I'd share it with you :)

So, as I was perusing youtube, I couldn't decide on just one song for this Music Monday...it is the last Monday before Christmas, afterall. {sidenote: where in the heck did this year go??} So, I've got not one, but 4 awesome Christmas songs for you. And, they're all by awesome, empowered women singers.
First of all, Florence + The Machine a live version of Last Christmas. Her voice is so beautiful, she could sing the phone book and we'd all cheer wildly:
An eerily beautiful version of Silent Night by Priscilla Ahn:
Enya? ok, i'm not a huge Enya fan, but this is so pretty {and this is one of my favorite songs to torture my kids with sing while i'm baking:
I LOVE Mindy Gledhill's new CD Winter Moon, she has such a clear, pretty voice! Her voice in this song sort of reminds me of The Cardigan's lead singer, ya know, "love me, love me, saaay that you love me" you know what i'm talkin about, right??
well, I narrowed it down to 4 but their are so many awesome Christmas songs out there! I didn't even get a David Archuleta Christmas song on the blog this month, darn it! Be sure to share your favorites and link up! ;)

Growing up, December meant that I would get a half day off of school on a Friday, head to Salt Lake City with my mom, aunts, and grandma and spend the weekend in the big city, Salt Lake and stay with Aunt Ronda, the most wonderful enjoyable person one could ever find.
We would stay in her house in the avenues, a yellow brick two bedroom home. I usually ended up on her couch in her front room. There was something magical about her house. It just exuded happiness.
Aunt Ronda always had a ceramic candy jar full of treats of the Hershey's variety. We would shop til we dropped for three days and kick back in the evenings with a little Kenny G, or some Josh Groban.
Aunt Ronda passed away in 2005. We all miss her so much, and the traditions that we held so dear. Anytime I hear these artists I am transported to that lovely home in the avenues of Salt Lake, sneaking some chocolate before dinner.
In memory of our favorite aunt, this is my favorite Christmas song:

Is there a special song that brings back Christmas memories for you? do share! I would love to hear your favorite Christmas songs!
well, my "sources" said The Killers were filming a western-themed music video...and my sources were right! I was thisclose to being an extra in this video...and by thisclose I mean, 8 hrs, and a million responsibilities away...dang this being a responsible adult stuff! The Killers have delivered another fine Christmas song this year, completely different than any of their past Christmas songs much more country-themed. I'm not usually a fan of country music but, this song is pretty darn catchy. Oh, and the video, it's awe to the some.. check it out:
I don't know if it gets any better than this...i mean, for those of us that appreciate Brandon Flowers as the perfect male specimen that he is, it's quite a beautiful sight to have him smiling and looking straight in the camera for most of the video. Oh, and dressed up like a cowboy, it just doesn't get any better. AND, another perfect male specimen is introduced- The Robot. And he does a perfect little robot dance, how appropriate. That deer at the end- he may be dead there hanging on the wall but he looks so content....i'm sure he thought it was well worth dying just to be a fly (or deer) on the wall at the cowboy christmas ball.
